Mini Tallow Bath Salt - Lemon Ginger Oatmeal
Description
Pucker up, buttercup, this one here's as if he angels themselves baked you a special heavenly hybrid of lemon meringue and oatmeal pies, then set it on the windowsill to cool in the crisp early morning summer meadow breeze. Okay, maybe it's not THAT good, but it's awfully close! Made with lemons peels collected from local lemonade & water ice makers, it hits the sweet spot with more Vitamin C, anti aging and anti inflammatory goodies than you can count, ginger peels, and shelf expired oats (not salable for consumption but great for skin!), while the tallow base keeps your skin as soft as Nana's meringue!
Rub-a-dub-dub, the ultimate scrub & soak in the tub! Locally minded, sustainably focused & chef made, we source many otherwise discarded, food grade ingredients from area restaurants & farms, seeing their value & saving them from waste bins. Starting with biocompatible grass fed tallow, these bath salts are gentle enough for light use on the face, effective enough to scrub away rough spots, & powerful enough for a muscle relieving soak, with a touch of tallow to keep your skin moisturized! So go ahead & get salty!
This 3 oz mini jar will be good for 1-2 baths, and comes in an upcycled spice jar,
Please note that due to the plant based & clay colorants that are used, there is a chance of staining if you have a porous tub. Please spot test before soaking!

Why tallow? At Vellum Street, they don't believe you should put anything on your skin that you wouldn't put in your mouth. All of their tallow based soaps, balms, lotions, salts, and candles are made from high quality, food grade ingredients, locally & organically sourced, often from the kitchens of local restaurants & farms in the form of upcycled material that would normally be considered waste.
Tallow is rich in the same types of lipids found in youthful, vibrant skin, and is chock full of of vitamins A, D, E & K. The fatty acids in tallow are much closer in molecular structure and size (and therefore, more bioavailable) to the oils our own skin produces, then the plant oils more commonly used in skin care products (which tend to have a larger molecule size). This smaller molecular mass allows the tallow to penetrate the skin barrier, actually reaching below the surface to get a little more than just skin deep!
Aside from its multitude of glorious skin benefits, using tallow from animals raised on small, local, regenerative agricultural focused farms, pastured & humanely raised, is one of the most eco conscious ways to source ingredients. Large scale farming of crops such as palm, soy, and even coconut, strip the soil of nutrients and decimate native animal habits and ecosystems. By putting the tallow from these local operations to good use, Vellum Street is helping to maximize energy spent on production, using every last bit with the ultimate goal of little to no waste. Food production is a difficult job, and they are very thankful to the farms, processors, animals, and plants who contribute to providing for us, and wish to honor them by appreciating and utilizing every last bit that they can. By sourcing locally as much as possible, they eliminate the immense waste produced with packaging and shipping ingredients to us across land and sea. With nothing added that doesn't have a beneficial purpose for your skin, you can be assured you're getting a top notch product, thoughtfully crafted & scientifically executed, that's suds of fun!
Founded in 2015 by Melissa Lynn Torre, a chef interested in both nutrition and food sustainability, it wasn't long before Vellum Street soap maker/mayhem slayer Melissa Lynn Torre started paying attention to not only what she put IN her body, but also ON it. After battling an auto-immune disease for decades, and finding no relief via traditional channels, Melissa began to realize so many commercially available soaps & skin care products today are formulated with ingredients you would never eat, so why slather them on your skin, which, like your digestive system, absorbs everything you put on it?!
After a growing interest & extensive research, Melissa discovered a slew of ingredients, many of which were leftover/excess ingredients in her cafe Cookie Confidential's own kitchen, that held numerous benefits for the skin, most notably, tallow. Not long after, Melissa stepped away from the world of pastry and private cheffing, and into the world of upcycled skincare. Creating products that are comprised of nothing that doesn't directly benefit skin health, along with being able to put to good use many food "scraps" that were once headed for the trash bin in many commercial kitchens, led Melissa to an exciting new venture that combined her love of food & creating in the kitchen with her desire to improve nutrition and food sustainability for both her and those around her struggling with similar issues.
