Who is Terra Shepherd?

If you are new around these parts, let me first say welcome! I am so happy you are here. Secondly, you may be wondering who exactly is Terra Shepherd. Terra Shepherd is actually not a person - it is a business name, a place, a way of thinking, and a community.

In the very early days of planning and dreaming of what the boutique would one day be, my husband suggested this name. It stuck in my heart and mind immediately. The boutique has been Terra Shepherd since that day - which just so happened to be long before he or I knew that we’d see this dream come to fruition.

“Terra” is the word for planet earth in Latin. “Shepherd” refers to my belief that human beings are the caretakers of our planet and the creatures that inhabit it. Together, Terra Shepherd is an expression of a desire and responsibility to do what we can to protect our environment and fellow human beings.

We live in a culture where things like self care, wellness, and advocacy are hailed as ideals to strive for. Yet I am often surprised at just how disconnected we are from the clothes we purchase and the hands that craft them. Our clothing and the often horrific conditions in which it is created falls victim to an “out of sight, out of mind” existence. Quite often, the origins of the garments we clothe ourselves in each day directly conflict with the ideals we cherish.

It is my goal to connect you with your clothing on a deeper level than you likely ever have by telling the stories of the makers, fabrics, production practices, and brands I have selected to carry in the store. I hope to help you realize the incredible value of investing in garments you truly love and are excited to cherish for years to come.

In just two words, Terra Shepherd embodies the ideals that serve as the guiding light for every decision I make in this business. This name has helped me craft the core values that I hope shine through in my words, actions, and intentions as a business owner.
