Soapstone is mined in Kisii county in southwestern Kenya--three different artisan groups in and around Nairobi carve, polish and paint the stone to create beautiful pieces.
Due to the handmade nature of these dishes, each may vary slightly.
Representing artisans from 12 nations across Africa, African Modern is a member of the Fair Trade Federation. They believe that the exchange of handcrafted goods should uplift skilled artisans and inspire conscientious collectors. Many of their products are crafted from natural or recycled materials.
